In this exhibition, Brooklyn-based Japanese multidisciplinary artist Yuko Uchida draws from Japanese agricultural and spiritual traditions to explore the deep connections between nature, labor, and cultural memory. Rooted in an animistic perspective, the installation brings together rice and straw—materials that carry both physical and symbolic weight—to evoke the unseen presence within nature.

As part of the exhibition, a live performance activates the installation as a contemporary ritual space. Inspired by the belief that seven spirits reside within a single grain of rice—water, soil, wind, sun, cloud, insects, and the farmer—performers embody these forces through movement, sound, and presence. Through repetition, improvisation, and sensory interaction with the materials, the work unfolds as a living offering, inviting reflection on the interdependence between humans, nature, and the unseen.

本展では、ブルックリンを拠点とする日本人マルチディシプリナリー・アーティスト、内田裕子が、日本の農耕と精神文化に根ざしながら、自然・労働・文化的記憶のあいだにある深い結びつきを探求します。アニミズム的な視点に基づいた本インスタレーションでは、米や藁といった素材を用い、それらが持つ物質的かつ象徴的な重なりを通して、自然の中に潜む目に見えない存在を呼び起こします。

本展の一環として行われるパフォーマンスでは、インスタレーションが現代の儀式的空間として立ち上がります。一粒の米に七つの精霊—水・土・風・太陽・雲・虫・そして耕人—が宿るという信仰に着想を得て、パフォーマーたちはそれぞれの要素を身体・音・存在を通して体現します。反復や即興、素材との感覚的な関わりの中で展開されるこの作品は、生きた供儀のように現れ、人間と自然、そして不可視の存在との相互依存についての思索へと観客を導きます。
