The 2026 Works in Progress – in situ call has finished, and our current cohort will present an exhibition in December. The open call for the next Works in Progress – in situ is currently announced through our exhibition open call — please submit there, and leave a note if you are only interested in Works in Progress and not an exhibition.

Works in Progress – in situ is an experimental project designed to bring people together to create new networks, new knowledge, and new possibilities. Art Byte Critique and Three Space Tokyo act as facilitators, but it is the sum of our collective energy, creativity, and openness that moves the project forward. It is an opportunity to step into an unmapped creative journey and move your practice forward.

Works in Progress – in situ has a limited capacity of 10 artists / artist groups to facilitate substantive dialogue and communication. If the number of applications exceeds 10, participants will be selected based on their application.

Guidelines

  1. This project is intended for those based in and around the Kanto area. Participants must be able to attend all meetings in person at Three Space Tokyo from July through November, as well as participate in the Open Incubator Studio at the beginning of December.
  2. Participants should be 18 years or older.
  3. Participants should have a project or concept in mind that they would like to develop with the support of other participants, and be open to working collaboratively.
  4. Works in Progress is open to all genres — visual arts, performing arts, writing, etc.
  5. Works in Progress – in situ is conducted in English. Participants should be able to communicate in English. (Communication in Japanese is possible, but the workshop is conducted in English.)
  6. There is no funding or accommodation provided for Works in Progress – in situ.
