Birthday Stories presents a new series of paintings and installations by Negar Kaghazchi, exploring time, memory, and the rituals of everyday life.
Taking its title from a collection of short stories edited by Haruki Murakami, the exhibition reflects on birthdays as quiet encounters with time—moments to pause and consider who we have been, who we are, and who we are becoming.
Through recurring motifs and atmospheric installations, Kaghazchi revisits familiar rituals such as decorating cakes, lighting candles, and taking photographs, uncovering beauty and meaning within impermanence.
「Birthday Stories」は、ネガール・カガズチによる絵画とインスタレーションを通して、時間、記憶、そして日常の中にある儀式を見つめる展覧会です。
本展のタイトルは、村上春樹が編集した短編小説集に由来し、誕生日を時間との静かな出会いとして捉えます。それは立ち止まり、これまでの自分、現在の自分、そしてこれからなっていく自分について思いを巡らせるひとときです。
繰り返し現れるモチーフと空間的なインスタレーションを通して、カガズチはケーキを飾ること、蝋燭に火を灯すこと、写真を撮ることなど、身近な誕生日の儀式をあらためて見つめ直します。そこから、移ろいゆく時間の中に潜む美しさと意味を浮かび上がらせます。
